The aim of the International Day of Girls in ICT, which this year is celebrated on April 27, 2023 , is to promote and make known the job opportunities offered by the ICT sector for the future of girls and adolescents and to encourage involvement of young women in technology-related careers. This sector continues to have a greater presence of men. To date, more than 240,000 girls and young women have participated in 7,200 International Girls in ICT Day celebrations in 160 countries around the world.
In this framework, public and private institutions join in carrying out activities to encourage and motivate girls to participate in careers with a technological profile, both in formal and non-formal education areas, as well as professionally, in spaces of leisure or other type of activities. In Catalonia, women today represent 57% of the population of working age, they only hold 26% of jobs linked to the ICT sector. From the Xarxa Punt TIC network we are joining the initiative for another year and will soon announce the campaign and communication actions.
