From the Espiral Education and Technology Association and the Technovation Girls Catalonia program, a technology and entrepreneurship contest aimed at girls between 10 and 18 years old, they invite women and men to guide the learning and teaching process of the development of a mobile application, with their collaboration altruistically as mentors to promote the good use of technology as a means to improve the world.

5 keys to being a good mentor

As they comment on their website, the five keys to being a good mentor are:

Motivate: have the ability to motivate the group of young people during the learning-teaching process with the ultimate goal of promoting the development of a mobile application as a solution to a social challenge.

Listening: knowing and understanding young mentors is key to developing the final goal. Reflect and talk together as a learning tool to achieve a proper learning environment and the optimal development of the project.

Transfer of knowledge and experiences: the knowledge and experiences of the mentors are key to the personal and professional development of the group of young people, managing to provide a differential value in the learning-teaching process.

Guide: the challenge is to guide the group of young people to find the way to do the journey. Advise leaving room for the alternative.

Challenge: challenge, invite reflection and offer confidence to achieve the objectives that the group sets.

How to take part?

The first is to register on this website and join a group: Libraries of Barcelona. You can fill out this form to find a group. The next orientation session is Thursday, January 21 at 6pm. You can sign up through this link.

The process lasts about 12 weeks with the aim of developing a mobile application as a technological solution to a social challenge. During the process, based on design thinking, the identification of a problem, writing a business plan, making a prototype with App Inventor and presenting the created project is addressed.

It is not necessary to have a technical profile to participate as a mentor, you can work as a couple and the support is face-to-face. The commitment is from January-April: 2-3 hours per week. The official Technovation Girls curriculum will be supported.
