The Catalan public consortium TERMCAT has recently collected a first selection of terms considered essential for understanding the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence tools in sectors such as, for example, the digital world, industry, education or health. The publication 'Terminology of artificial intelligence' has focused on the most common terms in the field of dissemination with the aim of facilitating understanding for non-specialists and prioritizing an accessible and understandable approach to artificial intelligence. The collection has nearly 150 basic concepts referring to the specific areas of machine learning, artificial neural networks, natural language processing, artificial vision or generative artificial intelligence. In this sense, each file contains a Catalan name, synonyms, equivalent words in Spanish, English and French, a descriptive definition and explanatory or exemplifying notes.
The initiative has had the collaboration of experts from the Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Department of Business and Employment of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Secretariat of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation of the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Centre of Innovation for Data Tech and Artificial Intelligence (CIDAI) and the Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (IIIA-CSIC). The publication 'Terminology of artificial intelligence' is a first approximation and, consequently, is open to future revisions, updates or expansions in order to facilitate communication in Catalan and the dissemination of key concepts within the technological field.
